Swindon Town FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

One of the pre season favourites for the title, Swindon spent the first 28 weeks of the campaign in the top 3 but their form became patchy at best and when they picked up just one point from a possible twelve during their final four games, they incredibly managed to slip out of the top seven and ended up ninth.

Ian Holloway had an astonishing rant during a meltdown at a press conference in February after fielding two ineligible players in the EFL trophy. An action that saw them thrown out of the competition and seemed to coincide with the demise of their league form.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

After coming painfully close to the play offs last season you'd be forgiven fror expecting similar things from the men from the County Ground. However, their late season collapse worries me and the bookies are equally concerned, predicting them to finish mid table if you go by their odds for the title.

Very little transfer business has been done at time of writing, although a lot of players were released at the end of the season so I expect to see a few additions before we kick off the new campaign.

Court Offside Tip

Last season really will have taken it's toll on the club and the players. They were dead certs for the play offs and even looked bankers for promotion at one point. To finish as low as they did will have hurt and I don't see them replicating the early season form this time around. I wouldn't be putting my money on the Robins to do anything in the forthcoming campaign.
