Nottingham Forest FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

With Europa League football splitting their calendar, it was going to be an interesting watch to see how the Reds could manage the extra game time. Keeping hold of Morgan Gibbs-White in the summer will have been a huge boost but a lack of any real signings left the squad looking exceedingly thread-bare. Despite flirting with relegation for large parts, they came to rest in 16th position whilst reaching the semi finals of the Europa. A pretty decent return from a team that needs and deserves some investment.

Elliot Anderson was, as expected, the stand out performer and those performances saw him selected in the 26 man England World Cup squad. Rightly so.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

Last season was always going to be tough with the added weight of expectations and the European adventures they had to account for, but they managed it. Just. This campaign should arguably be a bit easier.

The loss of Elliot Anderson will be felt unless there's a few signings. Xaver Schlager joins on a free transfer from Leipzig but I expect a large number of others to arrive between now and the end of the transfer window.

Court Offside Tip

I'm expecting it to be a bit of a stabilising season at the City Ground. I've got Forest finishing 13th which I've no doubt they'll be very happy with and I don't see them being troubled by the threat of relegation at all. The fact the bookies have them as 1/14 not to go down suggests I'm not in the minority either. Not a lot of value around for a bet right now but I'll re-evaluate in January.
