Northampton Town FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
Expectations were a relegation battle. Reality was a relegation battle. But it wasn't looking like that at Christmas. The Cobblers sat in 12th position and had just beaten Wimbledon 3-1, looking good in the process. After that performance, nobody predicted that they would win just one more game all season long. A run of twenty-six games. Including fourteen losses and one draw from their last fifteen. They finished bottom, seventeen points from safety.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
After last seasons calamity, Town will be looking to bounce back at the first attempt, but it's going to be tough. There's a lot of work to do in order to shift the mindset into a positive one. However, they certainly look like they're trying.
12 players have departed, whilst 6 have joined, including the exciting prospect of Matty Warhurst in a £100k deal from Manchester City. Warhurst is a striker and in total, he's bagged 61 goals in the mere 97 games he's played at youth level. One to watch.
Court Offside Tip
Now, here we have one of the more difficult predictions. I've plumped for a 9th place finish, but given the transfer activity and pre season performances I think there's some real value around them. 25/1 for the title, may be a little out of their reach but top 7 at 5/2 is defnitely worth a look and those odds will fly down if Town get off to a good start.
