Preston North End FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
As 2025 turned into 2026, Preston had been looking up, spending large amounts of that time in the play off places. Pre season title odds of 50/1 suggested an expected relegation battle which clearly wasn't going to materialise and despite their form slackening off in the second half of the campaign, the finished a comfortable 14th, thirteen points from the play offs and thirteen points from relegation. As mid table as you can get.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
For the first time in a long time, Preston are tipped to go down. The bookies have them as 3rd favourites for the drop and it's difficult to see why. They had a strong second half to last season and Paul Heckingbottom appears to have the squad on his side.
The permanent acquisition of Alfie Devine from Tottenham for a club record fee of £5.3m shouldn't be sniffed at, but it has to be said, the squad looks a little bare as we speak. A few new signings to complement an already decent set of players should have them nowhere near the relegation places.
Court Offside Tip
I've got them to finish 16th and in relative mid table obscurity which will probably please a few of the fans. Look around the division and it's stacked with talent and 'big clubs'. If I were a Preston fan, I'd be ecstatic to finish 16th and build toward 27/28. The bookies have them at just 5/2 for relegation so anything about the drop zone is going to be seen as good news. The season match bet pits them up against Bolton and as 4/7 favourites. If you're desperate for a punt, there's your odds.
