Lincoln City FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

What can you say about Lincoln's 2025/26 season. Just WOW. Nothing else really sums it up. They were as high as 40/1 for the title when the first ball was kicked back in August and yet when they lost to Wycombe on the 22nd November they still sat in 4th place. But things were only going to get better. Incredibly they didn't lose another game all season, winning twenty-three and drawing just six.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Jack Moylan pitching in with a combined 35 goal/assist contributions. By the 2nd December they were out of all cup competitions and their focus was solely on League One. Fair to say, it showed.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

The Imps are gearing up for a first second tier season since 1961, and in the eyes of many, are already on the back foot after replacing their highly-rated head coach, Michael Skubala, with the joint-management duo of Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw.

There's no real transfer activity in or out to mention. Sometimes this is a good thing because the squad harmony remains intact. but having lost the manager, I expected a couple of fresh faces to arrive to help gee up the existing squad.

Court Offside Tip

It's so tough to predict the fate of the Imps for this season. They're still riding the crest of last season's promotion wave, but if they get off to a poor start, do they have the squad or experience to handle it and turn things around? The answer is no. And therefore, relegation odds of evens seemed difficult to avoid. The thing is, if they get off to a good start, a top half finish is more than possible. I'm backing it now, but I wouldn't blame you for waiting until 3 or 4 weeks in to the season to see how things lie.
