Grimsby Town FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

Starting the season as 22/1 outsiders for the title, the general expectation was for a mid table kind of season but after an unbeaten first 6 games of the season, the Mariners found themselves in the automatic promotion places. Then Manchester United rolled into town for the second round of the Carabao Cup. Half an hour into the game and the League Two side led 2-0 under the lights! Despite two late goals from Mbeumo and Maguire levelling things, Grimsby prevailed 12-11 on penalties.

You'd forgive them for feeling like their job was already complete, but, after a mid season blip they recovered to claim 7th position, finally losing out to Salford City in the Play Off semi finals 4-3 on aggregate.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

A fair few players have left Town over the summer and the loss of George McEachran will be felt throughout the club. 35 year old veteran strike Andy Cook has signed on a permanant basis after last season's loan spell and despite a very poor spell at Gillingham, Josh Andrews has arrived to add some height and strength to the forward line.

Early predictions are for the Mariners to have another play off push but I'm not so sure.

Court Offside Tip

I've got them down for 11th this time out. There's no doubt they could mount another play off push and at 5/4 to finish top 7, there's defintiely tempting odds. I just don't think they're tempting enough right now. I'll be waiting and looking again around New Year.
