Crystal Palace FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

After winning last season's FA Cup, Palace were promptly thrown out of the Europa Cup and instated into the Conference League due to ownership being too closely linked to Lyon, who were also in the competition. Eberechi Eze left for Arsenal and by January, with the club floundering in 15th, it looked like talisman Jean Phillippe Mateta was off to Juventus. Only for the player to fail a medical. The fallout meant he wasn't overly welcome back at Selhurst.

The Eagles went on to finish 15th and never really troubled the relegation spots but in Europe, they were flying and reached the final where they played the Spaniards, Rayo Vallecano. After a cagey first half, Palace scored what turned out to be the only goal. The scorer? Mateta. Of Course.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

It's going to be an interesting season at Selhurst. The squad isn't big enough to sustain a Europa League campaign and a comfortable Premier League finish. They struggled in the league last time out whilst prioritising the push for a first European trophy. That can't happen again. There's a much deeper pool of talent in 26/27 in my opinion so the need for some good back up's is more important than ever.

However, the award for the least transfer activity of any kind most defeintely goes to the Eagles. At time of writing there have been no notable arrivals or departures. In some ways this will be pleasing for the home fans but they will no doubt be hoping to add a couple over the coming weeks.

Court Offside Tip

I've got Palace finishing 16th this season and given the extra European commitments that they'll have, I think they'll settle for that. Things could very easily go south though and I was very tempted by the 6/1 price available on them to be relegated. I don't think they'll go down, but there's value there for a potential cash out profit if things start badly.
