Barnsley FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

After reaching the play offs in 22/23 and 23/24, that's now back to back mid-table seasons for the Tykes. The loss of Davis Keillor-Dunn to Wrexham in January certainly didn't help with Barnsley skirting the edge of the top 6 throughout December. The ever-green David McGoldrick pitched in with 15 goals to finish top scorer but after just 2 wins from their final 13 games, they ended up fifteenth. A full 16 points behind Stevenage in 6th.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

Barnsley are undergoing a huge squad reshuffle this summer as their returning boss Daniel Stendel, who was the last man to take them up into the Championship, gets his feet settled back under the managers desk.

It's hard to look past the exits of Adam Phillips and Eoghan O'Connell but the arrivals of Tyrese Noslin, a £300k signing from Eredivisie side Telstar, and Clayton Taylor from the Aussie A League, show there's intent to improve on last season when they recorded their lowest finish since the 2002/03 campaign.

Court Offside Tip

There's a quiet level of excitement growing around Oakwell this summer. I've got them to finish 13th and others have similar predictions whilst the bookies don't seem to be differing too much, pricing them up at 4/1 to make the top 6. That could end up being a value bet. Get it on at high odds and look for the best time to cash out for profit.
